Ken Markovic MSW, PEL

Ken received his MSW from Loyola University in 2011, with a focus on school social work.  He has worked in many different communities with clients of many different racial and religious backgrounds. Ken takes a very unique approach to healing and therapy using techniques including self-esteem building, music, meditation and deep breathing, social stories, positive self-talk, art, journaling, Yoga, Play Therapy, and prides himself on empathetic listening.  The methods and modalities Ken practices primarily include CBT, ABA, DBT, and Depth Psychology.  Ken focuses on client strengths, often using a character inventory of positive personality traits.  Ken has a deep emotional connection to the struggles and pain faced by his clients.

 Ken has experience working with the LGBTQ population, advocating for their rights and equality.  He worked for Project Brotherhood, a clinic that focused on the mental and physical health of disenfranchised black men.  There he led social support groups and provided individual therapy for clients.  Ken understands the importance of tackling tough topics such as racism (institutional and historical), health and sex education, substance abuse, and various issues concerning the social, economic, familial, and political factors that impact clients.  Ken has done extensive research on programs and services for families of veterans, and veterans with TBI and PTSD, and has provided individual therapy for active and retired members of the military.  He also has experience with addictions counseling, and provides guidance to people who have been in toxic groups such as gangs and cults.  Ken uses his knowledge, passion, clinical skills, and experience to help his clients build character, heal from trauma, achieve their social emotional goals, and maintain a positive mental attitude.

Ken is a social worker with a humanistic approach and 4 years of experience working in schools in and throughout Chicago.  Ken is knowledgeable about school systems, special education law and providing evidence-based support to families. He focuses on best practice and interventions and pays close attention to school culture and diversity.  He loves seeing his students grow and recognize their full potential.  Ken also spent 4 years working as a case manager for families participating in Illinois Early Intervention Program.  He has collaborated with doctors, nurses, Speech Pathologists, Physical and Occupational therapists, and teachers to provide early intervention support to kids in need.
